Downtown Raleigh’s beloved boba shop, Budacai Boba, Bar+Bites, is undergoing a transformation—but fans of milk tea don’t need to worry.
The shop will soon be rebranded as Amrut, a new Indian restaurant, but a select menu of boba fruit and milk teas will remain available for quick-service orders.
The owners, who also operated the Indian restaurants Tower and Paradise in Morrisville, saw an opportunity to expand the space’s offerings beyond drinks and fast food.
While Budacai’s Southeast Asian menu will be replaced with Indian cuisine, the signature boba drinks will still be part of the experience.
Located at 120 E. Martin St., Amrut will soft-launch on April 15, with a grand opening planned for later in the month. The news stirred discussions on Reddit, with fans initially worried about losing the boba shop.
However, the owners assure customers that while the menu will be pared down, milk tea will still be served alongside a full-service Indian restaurant and bar.
Budacai first opened in 2019, with current owner Sah Papolu taking over late last year.
The decision to rebrand reflects their vision for a broader culinary experience in downtown Raleigh while still keeping boba on the menu for loyal customers.
