Originally situated near the Chili’s on Fowler Avenue, the shop moved in November due to redevelopment plans, officially reopening its doors on March 15. General Manager Dominic Fonseca, a University of South Florida (USF) alumnus and member of the band Jupiter Bloom, has played a key role in fostering the shop’s artistic atmosphere.
“The local music scene is really fun and personal,” Fonseca said. “I came here for an open mic night years ago, and I’ve been part of the community ever since.”
University Boba Tea House hosts a variety of events to engage the student crowd, including karaoke nights, open mic sessions, and live band performances from Thursday to Saturday. Event coordinator Analiese Pagan, who once visited as a customer, now curates the shop’s lineup and manages the band Mossheads.
“You see so many people interested in art and music—it’s like a big little community,” Pagan said.
To maintain the charm of its previous location, the new shop features a blend of modern and nostalgic elements. A “thrifty” back room keeps the cozy, artistic vibe alive, while the front has been redesigned with bright lighting, booth seating, and USF decor.
The grand opening event featured a packed lineup of karaoke, open mic performances, and live music, with contributions from Music Makers of USF, a club dedicated to supporting local musicians. With its larger space and growing popularity, University Boba Tea House continues to serve up more than just delicious drinks—it’s brewing a creative culture that brings people together.
