Mr. Wish Boba Shop Shuts Down In Houston’s Asiatown After 5 Successful Years

The beloved boba shop Mr. Wish has unexpectedly closed its only Texas location, situated at 9750 Bellaire Blvd in Houston’s Asiatown. The announcement came via Instagram over the weekend, leaving many patrons surprised and disappointed.

Located next to the bustling 85 C Bakery at Sterling Plaza, Mr. Wish had quietly become a favorite among local bubble tea enthusiasts. Despite being a Taiwanese chain, it lacked the same level of brand recognition as nearby competitors like Tiger Sugar, Gong Cha, and Sharetea. In their farewell post, the shop expressed gratitude for five wonderful years, stating, “After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our doors.”

On Saturday, customers gathered for one last visit, enjoying tea and board games during the shop’s final afternoon. Employees reported that the news of closure was sudden, and details regarding future plans or the reasons behind the closure remain unclear.

Mr. Wish distinguished itself in Bellaire Boulevard’s crowded boba scene by focusing on natural ingredients such as fresh fruit and high-quality milk. Signature drinks featuring authentic lychees and taro sourced from Taiwan were particularly popular. While Mr. Wish operates several locations across the United States, this was its sole Texas branch.

Asiatown has seen a number of boba shop closures recently, often leaving customers with little explanation. Notably, Dun Huang Plaza’s Yumcha shop recently closed but plans to rebrand as a franchise of the popular Chinese chain Hey Tea. Additionally, The Bunny, previously known as Ding Tea, also shut down earlier this month.
