Zenko Tea, a locally-owned bubble tea business, is set to significantly expand its footprint across the Des Moines metro area with the opening of three new locations. Known for its diverse menu of bubble teas, smoothies, and Vietnamese iced coffee, Zenko Tea is rapidly growing its presence, fueled by the community’s love for innovative and customizable beverages.
Zenko Tea recently acquired two former Gossip Tea Coffee locations in Waukee and Ankeny, and it plans to open another shop on Ingersoll Avenue next spring. By 2024, Zenko Tea will have five locations in total, a remarkable achievement for a business that launched just three years ago.
Founded in 2021 by Phuong Thai and her husband, Chau Vu, Zenko Tea opened its first store near Merle Hay Mall during the pandemic. Despite the challenges, the couple’s passion and commitment to offering premium bubble tea helped them thrive. They opened a second store in West Des Moines near Jordan Creek Town Center in 2023, and now with this latest expansion, Zenko is set to become a staple across Des Moines.
Zenko Tea offers a wide variety of bubble tea flavors, including fan favorites like wintermelon milk tea, along with a range of toppings such as traditional boba, jellies, caramel flan, cheese foam, and tiramisu foam. Their Vietnamese iced coffee (cà phê sữa đá) has also gained a loyal following, alongside adorable homemade macarons from Rosechu that add a sweet touch to their offerings.
Phuong Thai expressed excitement about the brand’s growth, stating, “We’re thrilled to bring more bubble tea options to Des Moines. Our goal is to create a place where the community can come together and enjoy unique drinks in a welcoming atmosphere.”
As Zenko Tea continues to grow, the local bubble tea scene is booming. Whether you’re a bubble tea enthusiast or trying it for the first time, Zenko’s diverse menu promises a refreshing and flavorful experience. The new stores will open just in time to keep the bubble tea momentum going in 2024.
