Mad Tea Launches Compostable Tea Pods For Nespresso Machines

Genecis Bioindustries has introduced its first consumer brand, Mad Tea, featuring 100% compostable tea pods. These innovative pods are fully compatible with Nespresso machines, allowing tea lovers to brew a cup of tea in under 30 seconds. The flavors include Matcha, Chai, Jasmine Milk Tea, Earl Grey, Chamomile Lavender, Thai Milk, Brown Sugar Milk, and Peach Oolong. Each pod is vegan and lactose-free.

“We’ve reinvented the tea experience with pods inspired by boba teas and the speed of espresso brewing,” said Junwei Lv, head of flavor development at Mad Tea. “Our goal was to offer affordable and quick solutions using specialty teas, often time-consuming or expensive to prepare, while maintaining bold and enjoyable flavors.”

Mad Tea pods are not only convenient but also eco-friendly. Engineered from a proprietary strain of bacteria, the pods contain bioplastics like polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), which are non-toxic and break down completely, leaving no microplastics behind. This makes them both industrially compostable and durable enough to withstand the brewing process.

“We believe convenience should not compromise quality or the ritual of tea making,” said Luna Yu, CEO and founder of Mad Tea. “Our pods provide premium tea experiences while reducing dependence on harmful plastics.”

Genecis Bioindustries has a track record of delivering bioplastic solutions to companies such as Amazon, Novo Nordisk, and Sodexo. The company has raised $30 million from investors including Khosla Ventures and Amazon, with CEO Luna Yu recently being named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for her biotechnology achievements.

Mad Tea pods are available for purchase on the brand’s website and are featured as an amenity in select W Hotels and Palisociety locations in New York City and Los Angeles.
