Freeze Your Milk: Tesco Offers Practical Advice For Shoppers

In light of the ongoing cost of living crisis, Tesco is offering valuable advice to help consumers manage their grocery budgets more effectively, particularly when it comes to milk. As many shoppers seek ways to minimize waste and stretch their finances, the supermarket giant emphasizes the benefits of freezing milk.

Tesco’s website highlights that freezing milk can significantly reduce wastage. While most people know they can freeze items like bread and bananas, milk is often overlooked as a suitable candidate for freezing. To ensure optimal results, Tesco advises that if you have an unopened carton, you should pour out a small amount before placing it in the freezer to accommodate expansion. Alternatively, transferring the milk into an airtight container is also recommended.

When you’re ready to use the frozen milk, simply defrost it overnight in the refrigerator and give it a good shake to recombine the milk and fat.

For those with smaller quantities of leftover milk, Tesco suggests using ice cube trays. This method allows you to freeze milk in convenient portions, perfect for adding to tea or incorporating into recipes like overnight oats.

Courtney Pallett, a campaigns manager at Tesco, remarked, “Your freezer is your friend when it comes to reducing food waste and avoiding throwing food away.” She added that many commonly wasted foods, including milk, bananas, and avocados, can be preserved through freezing for later use.
