A unique addition to Granite City’s culinary scene, Chocolate Covered Creations Cafe stands out with its anime-themed ambiance and diverse menu offerings. Nestled at 3214 Namioki Road, this cafe caters to a wide range of tastes, serving up delectable pastries, baked goods, boba tea, and coffee.
Owner Breanna McGill, a passionate anime enthusiast herself, envisioned a cozy haven for fellow fans to unwind and indulge. “We wanted to bring a piece of comfort for the anime community,” she explained. We wanted a comfy lounging area and a lot of local artwork tied into the place so we could have our customers come in and grab a boba milk tea or a latte and just read a manga or watch some anime and feel real at home.
The cafe’s menu is as diverse as its clientele, with plans for further expansion in the pipeline. Alongside their signature pastries, boba tea, flavored lemonades, and coffee, patrons can savor wraps, salads, and croissant sandwiches. McGill’s personal favorites include vintage heart cakes and smash cakes, while the zombie boba tea with honeydew milk tea and strawberry popping boba remains a popular choice among customers.
Beyond its culinary offerings, Chocolate Covered Creations Cafe has carved a niche for itself as a welcoming hub for anime enthusiasts. Head cashier Jaylene Ortiz emphasized the inclusive atmosphere, where patrons feel free to express themselves authentically. “I think we just create a good vibe here,” Ortiz remarked. “I just really like the fact that people can express themselves here and be able to have a safe space where they know other people who like anime.”
For McGill, the cafe represents more than just a business venture; it embodies a vibrant community she’s proud to nurture. Looking ahead, she envisions expanding her concept beyond Granite City, with ambitious plans for multiple locations. “I want to grow bigger than this,” she declared. “A lot bigger.” With its unique blend of culinary delights and anime-themed charm, Chocolate Covered Creations Cafe is poised to make its mark far beyond its hometown.
