Get ready to indulge in all things boba as Downtown San Mateo gears up for a delightful celebration on April 28th.

The Downtown San Mateo Association is rolling out the tapioca carpet for Boba Day, an event that promises to be a treat for boba enthusiasts and newcomers alike. With 16 participating boba and boba-adjacent businesses, attendees can look forward to tantalizing samples, enticing sales, and exclusive specials.

But wait, there’s more! The festivities extend beyond just sipping on delicious beverages. B Street will transform into a playground of fun with free activities like Zorb ball racing, bubble stations, and balloon animals from noon to 3 p.m.

And here’s the cherry on top: Score some fantastic goodies by presenting proof of your boba purchase at the Downtown San Mateo Association booth. From reusable metal boba straws to adorable “Boba On Board” stickers and trendy downtown San Mateo drink koozies, there’s a prize for every boba lover. Plus, don’t forget to cast your vote for the best boba shop in downtown San Mateo for a chance to win a cuddly boba plushie from Fanloli Beauty.

Mackenzie Jakoubek, Executive Director of the Downtown San Mateo Association, is thrilled about the event’s spotlight on local businesses. “I’m also just really excited for people to come to downtown San Mateo who maybe haven’t been here before or even people who haven’t tried boba before, maybe going out of their comfort zone and giving it a try,” she shared.

And the excitement doesn’t end there! Participating shops are offering irresistible deals, including 50% off all boba drinks at Bambu Dessert Drinks and buy-one-get-one-free offers at TP Tea. Plus, indulge in a complimentary 24 oz organic black milk tea with boba with any beverage purchase at Bobabia.

With support from various organizations including CAM Edu, the City of San Mateo, and the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce, Boba Day promises to be a delightful experience for all. And here’s a pro-tip from Jakoubek: “If you’re on the fence, I will remind you that San Mateo has free parking on Sundays,” she said. “It’ll just be a fun social day to come out in San Mateo.” So mark your calendars and get ready to sip, savor, and celebrate Boba Day in Downtown San Mateo!
