As the cool weather persists in Japan, Starbucks Japan has unveiled a new summer-exclusive beverage ahead of the season. Named the Matcha & Crushed Pistachio Milk Tea Latte, this limited-edition offering will be featured exclusively at the chain’s Tea & Cafe branches.
With only 12 branches across Japan, located in select areas including Tokyo, Osaka, Saitama, Fukuoka, Toyama, Kyoto, and Hyogo prefectures, this Starbucks creation is indeed harder to come by. However, those fortunate enough to sample it will be treated to its distinctive flavor profile.
True to its name, Starbucks Tea & Cafe branches specialize in teas, utilizing the chain’s Teavana brand. While the cold matcha latte is a staple summer release at these branches, this year’s offering combines powdered green tea with pistachio ‘milk’—a blend of pistachio and cashew nuts—and is infused with a shot of white mocha-flavored syrup for sweetness. The beverage is artfully divided into two layers, featuring the nutty ‘milk’ and crunchy pistachio and almond pieces at the base, while the matcha mixture crowns the top layer, providing a delightful interplay of flavors in every sip.
Patrons can choose to savor the top layer for a robust matcha experience or blend it into the base for a mellower, nutty taste. According to Starbucks, this layered latte is designed to showcase the allure of matcha and is ideal for early summer indulgence. Available only while supplies last from April 17th to July 2nd, the beverage is offered in a tall size at 687 yen (approximately US$4.49) for takeout or 700 yen for dine-in customers.
This exclusive creation is yet another reason for Starbucks enthusiasts to pay a visit to a Tea & Cafe branch in Japan!
