Crimson Perk, the beloved campus café located in Stabley Library, has recently made a significant upgrade to its menu, now featuring boba tea and available for convenient ordering via the Grubhub app. This new addition allows students to enjoy their favorite beverages and meals with ease, catering to their busy schedules.
Open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Crimson Perk provides breakfast items and café beverages, perfect for early mornings or late-night study sessions on campus.
On Tuesday, the café introduced the popular Taiwanese drink, boba tea, which quickly gained popularity, selling nearly 60 cups within hours. In addition to boba tea, several new smoothie flavors, including mango, were added to the menu, expanding students’ beverage options.
Boba tea, a milk-based drink often accompanied by chewy tapioca pearls or jelly pearls, has become a favorite among students nationwide. “Botrista,” the brand behind the boba machine used at Crimson Perk, affirms that the drink has captured the hearts of college students everywhere.
To celebrate the launch, Crimson Perk offered free samples, social media posts, interactive games, and stickers to generate buzz among the student body. “I saw the post on Instagram and had to try it,” said Hailey Hertz, a freshman in interior design. “I was so excited when I saw the sign about it in the HUB,” added Kaylyn McVeigh, also a freshman in interior design.
Along with the new drink offerings, Crimson Perk has also responded to a common student request by joining the Grubhub platform. This allows students to order from the café quickly and efficiently, enhancing convenience and competing with other on-campus dining options like Starbucks and Chick-fil-A.
“I love being able to use Grubhub before class; it’s so much easier,” said freshman Amera Lux, a business management student.
However, some students have voiced concerns over the price of the new boba tea and other items. “The mango boba with tapioca was great, but at $6.99, it’s a bit pricier compared to Starbucks,” said Lux.
Campus cafés often have higher prices due to factors like limited competition, labor costs, and student demand. Many students have expressed interest in a “meal swipe special” to reduce costs. “I wish I could use my meal swipes at Crimson Perk like I do at the HUB,” said Isabelle Oikawa Torres, a freshman studying community health.
A “meal swipe special” could offer students the opportunity to save their Flex dining dollars while enjoying the new boba and other menu items.
