The Healthiest Starbucks Drink You Can Order, According To A Dietitian

For many, a daily coffee is more than just a caffeine boost—it’s part of a morning routine. However, navigating the extensive Starbucks menu can be challenging, especially for those with dietary restrictions or anyone aiming for a healthier option.

While black coffee or hot tea are often seen as the healthiest choices, there are other options that provide a balance of flavor and nutrition. Registered dietitian nutritionist Lauren Manaker shares her recommendations for the healthiest drink at Starbucks, beyond the usual coffee or tea.

Many Starbucks drinks are loaded with sugar, thanks to syrups, whipped cream, and other sweet toppings. Manaker suggests that a simple latte made with 2% dairy milk and topped with cinnamon is an excellent choice. “This combination strikes the perfect balance between natural flavors and no added sugars,” she says. ”

The dairy milk provides 13 essential nutrients, including calcium, vitamin D, and high-quality protein, which can help keep you full.” As for the cinnamon, it not only enhances the flavor but is also known for its potential antioxidant benefits.

If you’re looking for a healthier alternative beyond a latte or regular coffee, Manaker offers a few tips. She recommends opting for smaller sizes, choosing unsweetened drinks, or asking for fewer pumps of syrup. Skipping extra toppings like whipped cream can also help cut down on added sugar.

To further increase satiety, pairing your drink with a nutritious snack like nuts, fruit and cheese, or a hard-boiled egg is a great option. “Being mindful of your drink pairings can enhance both flavor and overall well-being,” she adds.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you need to completely avoid your favorite indulgent drinks. “Whether it’s a Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino or a Peppermint Mocha, enjoying something you love as part of a balanced diet is perfectly fine,” Manaker says. “The key is to make choices that fit your lifestyle and overall health goals.”
