Mixue, the Chinese milk tea and ice cream giant, has overtaken McDonald’s to become the world’s largest food and beverage chain by store count. As of September last year, Mixue boasts an impressive 45,302 locations globally, surpassing McDonald’s 43,000 stores.
This rapid growth has propelled Mixue from fourth place to the top spot in just one year, according to Momentum Works. While its store count leads the industry, Mixue still trails behind in terms of terminal sales, ranking fourth in the freshly made beverages category with $6.5 billion. In contrast, Starbucks leads with $55.5 billion, followed by Inspire Brands at $14.9 billion, and Tim Hortons at $7.5 billion.
Despite its massive global footprint, with 3,700 stores in China and nearly 2,900 of its coffee sub-brand Lucky Cup, Mixue’s international presence is still expanding. With over 4,700 stores in 11 countries, the brand continues to dominate markets like Indonesia and Vietnam, which have the largest overseas store counts at 2,667 and 1,304, respectively.
Founded in 1997 by Zhang Hong Chao in Zhengzhou, Mixue is famed for its fresh milk tea beverages and ice cream offerings, setting the stage for continued growth in the global food and beverage landscape.
