Bing and Tommy Tang, the masterminds behind the successful Freezing Moo rolled ice cream venture that took off in late 2016, have now embarked on a new culinary journey. After selling their ice cream concept, which expanded across Johnson County and Wichita, the Tangs are now setting their sights on Stickman – a delectable fusion of dumplings, stick treats, and boba delights. Located at 9563 Nall Ave., occupying the former space of a Papa Murphy’s outlet, Stickman quietly debuted its offerings on Thursday, with hopes of becoming a new sensation in town.
With aspirations for broader success, Bing Tang shares their strategy: “We told (investors), ‘Let’s take it easy.’ Open the first one, and see how it goes.” The shop boasts an array of milk tea options infused with a variety of boba flavors, ranging from classic brown sugar to enticing selections like strawberry and lychee. Additionally, dumplings take center stage, available in luscious custard and traditional red bean flavors.
Yet, it’s the “stick” candies that steal the show, drawing inspiration from the popular Asian tanghulu, or candied fruit skewers. Flavors such as strawberry, blueberry, and orange are promised delights, although Bing notes they’re still fine-tuning their offerings. Alongside these delectable treats, Stickman serves up matcha, brown sugar coffee, oolong tea, macarons, shaved ice cream, and more.
Presently, Stickman operates with limited hours, welcoming patrons from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays, and from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. While there’s potential for extended hours down the line, Bing emphasizes the importance of allowing the team to settle into their new venture before diving into full-day operations.
Meanwhile, Bing’s previous endeavor, Freezing Moo, has bid farewell to the Kansas City area. Despite once gracing various locations across Leawood, Overland Park, Olathe, Lee’s Summit, and State Line Road, the last outpost shuttered its doors last year. However, one Freezing Moo outpost continues to thrive in Wichita, serving as a testament to the Tangs’ entrepreneurial spirit and culinary prowess.
