Colombo, April 25 – Asela Sampath, Chairman of the National Consumer Front, has urged canteen owners to offer a cup of milk tea for Rs. 80, starting today. This call comes alongside the announcement of reduced prices for imported milk powder, aiming to pass on the benefit to consumers.
Speaking to the media, Sampath highlighted that importers of milk powder have opted to lower retail prices for their one-kilogram and 400-gram packets, effective immediately, in response to the recent depreciation of the dollar in the global market.
“In recent times, many individuals refrained from patronizing eateries for a cup of milk tea due to the heightened prices of milk powder. Now, the scenario has shifted, and consumers once again have the opportunity to enjoy a cup of milk tea at a price of Rs. 80,” Sampath stated.
This move seeks to alleviate the financial burden on consumers while also stimulating demand for milk tea, ultimately benefitting both consumers and businesses in the food and beverage sector.
